Your SourceForge Product Page acts as the main hub of information about your product and showcases your product's value proposition. You'll want to be sure to optimize it and keep it current for maximum exposure and new customer acquisition.

Basic editing and listing management features are available for free to all software vendors. Enhanced features, CTA buttons to your website, and demand gen tools will require an upgraded SourceForge plan.

Product Description

The Product Description tab is where you can edit your logo, cover photo, product description, targeted audience, homepage URL, video, and company information. Please be as descriptive as possible when writing your product description to really help your listing convey what your product does.

Full Description

The Full Description field is the text that will display on your SourceForge and Slashdot product pages. Be as descriptive as possible when filling out your description to really let potential buyers know what your product offers.

You can click on the link that says "Click here to edit category-specific descriptions", and you will be presented with fields where you can enter unique descriptions that will show up in each unique category. In other words, you can tailor your description to change depending on which category the user is viewing.

Video

The Video field enables you to display a YouTube video on your product page. Simply paste in the link to your YouTube video, and it will automatically display on your product page.

Audience

The Audience field lets you convey to potential buyers which types of users or organizations your product is designed for.

Cover Image

Upload a beautiful Cover Image which will display across the top of your SourceForge product page, showcasing your branding and value. (Dimensions 1300px wide by 200px tall).

Software Details

The Software Details tab is where you can edit all the specifics about your product, including:

  • Pricing
  • Whether or not you offer a free trial or a free version of the product
  • What type of support options you provide
  • What type of training options you provide
  • What type of platforms or operating systems your product supports
  • Whether or not your product offers an API
  • What integrations your product supports
  • What regions your product is available in
  • Which products are competitors of your product
  • What categories your product fits in
  • What features your product offers
  • What organization sizes your product works for
  • What types of organizations your product works for
  • What languages your product supports

It’s extremely important that you fill out as much of this data as possible, as our powerful software search engine depends on it. Users on our site looking for software or services can search and filter by every facet listed above.

For example, a user might be looking for CRM software that is targeted towards small businesses, and offers a free trial. Our on-site search engine filters will filter out all queries that do not match this user’s filter criteria. You don’t want to miss out on searches just because you failed to fill out all the fields that apply to your product.

Integrations

Listing your integrations (if your product has any) is very important. Users can search specifically by integrations, so you’ll want your product to show up in these searches if your product does integrate with the product the user is searching for. In addition, listing integrations will cause your product to appear on the "Integrations" pages of the products you list, greatly increasing your exposure. So, for example, if you listed Salesforce as an integration, your product would show up on pages like this.

You can set your integrations in the Integrations section of the Software Details tab.

Competitors

Listing your competitors is the easiest way to vastly increase your exposure and visibility on SourceForge. When you list your competitors, your product will automatically appear on your competitors’ product pages and your competitors’ "Alternatives" pages. So, for example, if you listed Salesforce as a competitor, your product would show up on pages like this.

Screenshots

The Screenshots section lets you upload product screenshots. You can upload up to 6 screenshots, and include captions for each one.

Your Listing on Slashdot

You also have a product listing on Slashdot. Slashdot is an iconic technology and software discussion site, and our business software and services partner directory. Currently, your Slashdot listing is complimentary to your SourceForge listing, and provided free of charge. All edits you make to your SourceForge listing will automatically reflect on your Slashdot listing as well. Any user reviews published on your SourceForge listing will sync across to your Slashdot listing automatically, and vice versa.

Thought Leadership Articles

SourceForge offers vendors the ability to publish thought leadership, industry expertise, and Q&A articles about their product and category. Articles are published in the SourceForge Articles section, and will also appear on your SourceForge product page. These articles are also shared by SourceForge and Slashdot via social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, and X).
